Regenerated energy will be used to chargethe hybrid battery.*1: The gasoline engine will automatically st op and restart under various conditions.*2:When used in this manual, "regeneration" refers to the conversion of energy created bythe movement of the vehicle into electrical energy.■Charging the batteryWhen shift position N is selected, the hybrid battery (traction battery) will not be charged.Thus, select P when the vehicle is stopped.In addition, when driving in heavy traffic, use D or B.■Regenerative brakingThe motor generator converts kinetic energy to electric energy when:●The accelerator pedal is released while driv ing with shift position D or B selected.●The brake pedal is depressed while drivin g with shift position D or B selected.Your vehicle is a hybrid vehicle. It has characteristics different from conventional vehicles.Be sure you are closely familiar with the char acteristics of your vehicle, and operate withcare.The hybrid system combines the use of a gaso line engine and an electric motor (tractionmotor) according to driving conditions, impr oving fuel efficiency and reducing exhaustemissions.For details, refer to the "Owner's Manual".
