Indication of a flat tireThe warning lamps come on in yellowand red. A message appears on theControl Display. In addition, a signalsounds.There is a flat tire or a major loss in tire inflationpressure.1. Carefully reduce your speed to a maximumof 50 mph/80 km/h.Avoid sudden braking and steering maneu‐vers. Do not increase the speed again.Do not continue driving without run-flat tiresDo not continue driving if the vehicle is notequipped with run-flat tires; continued driv‐ing may result in serious accidents.◀2. Check the air pressure in all four tires at thenext opportunity.If the tire inflation pressure in all tires is cor‐rect, the Flat Tire Monitor may not have beeninitialized. In this case, initialize the system.Continued driving with a flat tirePossible driving distance with complete loss oftire inflation pressure:▷With a light load: 1 person without luggage:approx. 155 miles/250 km.▷With a medium load: 1 person, trunk full, or2 people without luggage: approx. 94 miles/150 km.▷With a full load: 2 people, trunk full: approx.30 miles/50 km.If there is minor tire damage, especially on thetire tread, the distance that you can travel withthe damaged tire can be extended.After notification, inflate the damaged tire to amaximum of 43 psi/3.5 bar at the next opportu‐nity.Do not reinitialize the Flat Tire Monitor. The ex‐isting flat tire notification will continue to act asa reminder of the defective tire. The procedurecan be repeated several times.Continued driving with a flat tireDrive moderately and do not exceed aspeed of 50 mph/80 km/h.A loss of tire inflation pressure results in achange in the handling characteristics, e.g., re‐duced lane stability during braking, a longerbraking distance and altered self-steering prop‐erties.◀Final tire failureVibrations or loud noises while driving canindicate the final failure of the tire. Reduce speedand stop; otherwise, pieces of the tire couldcome loose and cause an accident. Do not con‐tinue driving, and contact your service center. ◀Status displayThe current status of the Flat Tire Monitor canbe displayed on the Control Display, e.g.,whether or not the FTM is active.1.
