11CT200h_QG_U (OM76016U)nCharging the batteryWhen shift position N is selected, the hybrid battery (traction battery) will not be charged. Thus, select P when the vehicle is stopped. In addition, when driving in heavy traffic, use D or B.nRegenerative brakingThe motor generator converts kinetic energy to electric energy when:lThe accelerator pedal is released while driving with the shift position in D or B.lThe brake pedal is depressed while driving with the shift position in D or B.nSounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicleThere may be no engine sounds or vibration even though the vehicle is able to move. Forsafety, apply the parking brake and make sure to shift the shift position to P when parked. The following sounds or vibrations may occur when the hybrid system is operating and arenot a malfunction:lMotor sounds may be heard from the engine compartment.lSounds may be heard from the hybrid battery (traction battery) behind the rear seatswhen the hybrid system starts or stops.lSounds may be heard from the transmission when the gasoline engine starts or stops, when driving at low speeds, or during idling.lEngine sounds may be heard when accelerating sharply.lSounds may be heard due to regenerative braking when the brake pedal is depressedand accelerator is loosened.lOther sounds, such as motors and mechanical noises, may be heard from the brake sys-tem when the brake pedal is depressed.lVibration may be felt when the ga soline engine starts or stops.lCooling fan sounds may be heard from the air in take vent on the side of rear right seat-back.nRunning out of fuelWhen the vehicle has run out of fuel and the hybrid system cannot be started, refuel thevehicle with at least enough gasoline to make the low fuel level warning light go off. If there isonly a small amount of fuel, the hybrid system may not be able to start.(The minimum amount of fuel to add to make th e low fuel level warning light go out is about3.1 gal. [11.8 L, 2.6 Imp.gal.], when the vehicle is on a level surface. This value may vary whenthe vehicle is on a slope.)
