16Safety Precautions/Notes on waterproof, dustproof and shock-resistant propertiesNotes on waterproof, dustproof and shock-resistant propertiesThis product has awaterproof property equivalent toIPX5*1 and IPX8*2, as well as adustproofpropertyequivalent toIP5X*3 on the condition that the external connection jack cover and back cover are securely attached (based on in-house testing).Whiledroptesting has been carried out inaccordancewith MIL-STD-810G Method 516.6:Shock-ProcedureIV*4 as formulated by the U.S. Department of Defense, this does not guarantee resistance to all instances of shock.Specifically, you can make calls holding the product with wet hands in the rain (lessthan 20 mm per hour) without umbrella,as well as use the productinaplace with water such as a bathroom or kitchen.Before using the product, thoroughly read "Important items to remember before use" and "Tips for comfortable use" to ensure correct use. Failure to follow the contents described in these sections may cause intrusion of water, sand or other foreign material, resulting in overheating, fire, electric shock, injury or a fault.*1 IPX5equivalentmeans that the productwill maintain itsoperability as aphone even ifitissprayed with water froma6.3 mm diameter nozzle atadistance ofabout 3meters for morethan 3minutes atarate ofabout 12.5 liters per minute from any direction.*2 IPX8equivalent means that the productwill maintain itsoperability as aphone with no water getting inside the product even if it is gently submerged in a tankofstill tap water atroomtemperaturetoadepth of1.5 meter for about 30 minutes.*3 IP5Xequivalent means that the productwill securelymaintain itsoperability as a phone even after it has been placed in an apparatus with grit and dust of diametersof75 μm orless and shaken for 8hours.*4 Droptesting (in which the productisdroppedin26 directionsfromaheight of1.22 m onto plywood (lauan)) was conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-810GMethod 516.6:Shock-ProcedureIVformulatedby the U.S. Departmentof Defense. Shock-resistant property of this product is based on the assumption that it is used in everyday life. Therefore, the product might break if it receives excessive impact such as being thrown or dropped forcibly. Note also that the product gets scratches, etc. by falling impact even though its functionality of the product remains intact.Since operation of the product on each usage scene was confirmed based on the above assumption, proper operation of the product in every possible condition during actual use is not guaranteed. Malfunctions determined to be caused by mishandling by the customer are not covered by the warranty.Important items to remember before use• Make sure that the external connection jack cover is firmly closed, and the back cover is securely attached.• Waterproofnessisonly effectivewhen the covers are securely closed.• Justasmall particle(ahair,etc.) on the seals can cause water leaks.• Donot open/close the externalconnection jack cover or back cover if the product or your hands are wet.How to close the external connection jack coverAfter stowing the cover hinge, press on the external connection jack cover ① evenly with the flat part of your finger.Then, rub your finger over the cover in the direction of arrow ② to ensure that the cover is not partially open.② ①
