111Settings for TTL flash modeAfter turning on the flash unit and setting it to"TTL” mode, proceed as follows on the LEICA M7:0 1. Before each flash exposure, first of all turn onthe exposure meter by lightly pressing theshutter release button, i.e. the display musthave switched to shutter speed values or thelight balance. If the shutter release button ispressed too quickly and completely and theexposure meter remains turned off, the flashunit may not be triggered.0 2. Set the shutter speed dial to " AUTO ", the flashsynchronising speed " " (1/50s) or, for spe-cial effects, a slower shutter speed (or " B "). Inaperture priority mode, the camera automati-cally switches to the flash synchronisingspeed 1/50s.0 3. Set the desired aperture or that required forthe appropriate distance between camera andsubject.Flash exposure displays in the viewfinder withthe SF20/SF24D or compatible flash unitswith SCA 3502/3501 adapterIn the LEICA M7 viewfinder, an LED in the shapeof a flash (A) is used for acknowledgement and toindicate the different modes. This LED appears together with the displays described in the corres-ponding sections for exposure metering using theavailable light.Displays in TTL and automatic flash mode• is not displayed even though the flash unit isturned on and ready to use: A shutter speed faster than 1/50s is manuallyset on the camera, but the flash unit is not set to the "High speed synchronised flash” function. In such cases, the LEICA M7 does nottrigger the flash unit even if it is turned on andready to use.Note: High speed synchronised flash is only pos-sible in the flash unit’s manual mode, not for com-puter or TTL mode.• flashes slowly (at 2Hz) before the shutter isreleased: The flash unit is not operational yet.• lights up continuously before the exposure:The flash unit is operational.
