Do not use a seat belt for morethan one person at once, including children.lLexus recommends that children be seated in the rear seat and always use a seatbelt and/or an appropriate child restraint system.lDo not recline the seat any more than necessary to achieve a proper seatingposition. The seat belt is most effective when the occupants are sitting up straightand well back in the seats.lDo not wear the shoulder belt under your arm.lAlways wear your seat belt low and snug across your hips.nAdjustable shoulder anchorAlways make sure the shoulder belt is positioned across the center of your shoul-der. The belt should be kept away from yo ur neck, but not falling off your shoulder.Failure to do so could reduce the amount of protection in an accident and causedeath or serious injuries in a collision. ( →P. 57)nChild restraint lock function belt precautionDo not allow children to play with the child restraint lock function belt. If the beltbecomes twisted around a child's neck, it will not be possible to pull the belt outleading to choking or other serious injuries that could result in death. If this occursand the buckle cannot be unfastened, scis sors should be used to cut the belt.nSeat belt pretensionerslDo not place anything, such as a cushion, on the front passenger's seat. Doing sowill disperse the passenger's weight, wh ich prevents the sensor from detectingthe passenger's weight properly. As a resu lt, the seat belt pretensioner for thefront passenger's seat may not activate in the event of a collision.lIf the pretensioner has activated, the seat belt becomes locked: it cannot be fur-ther extended, nor will it return to the stowed position. The seat belt cannot beused again and must be replaced at your Lexus dealer.
