Scheduled Maintenance LogEXPLANATION OFMAINTENANCEITEMS67Rack and Pinion Assembly Inspect the rack and pinion assembly for signs of leak-age, damage and loose electrical connections. Tightenconnections and if you discover any leakage or dam-age, have it repaired immediately by a qualified tech-nician.Road Test While driving the vehicle, check for proper operationof engine, transmission, brakes and steering. Alsocheck for abnormal noise or vibration from any part of the vehicle.Spark Plugs Install new plugs of the same type as originallyequipped. Refer to your Owner's Manual . A qualifiedtechnician should perform this operation.Steering Linkage and Boots With the vehicle stopped, check for excessive freeplayin the steering wheel. Inspect the linkage for bendingand damage and the dust boots for deterioration, cracks and damage. Replace any damaged parts. Aqualified technician should perform these operations.Timing Belt (except GS300 and IS) Replace every 90,000 miles or 108 months. A qualifiedtechnician should perform this operation. (The GS 300and IS are equipped with a timing chain, whichrequires no periodic inspection.)Tire Rotation Tires should be rotated according to the instructions in your Owner's Manual . When rotating tires, checkpressure and check for damage and uneven wear. Ifthe spare is not rotated, check the condition and pres-sure of the spare.Transfer Case Fluid (GS300 All-Wheel Drive, IS250 All-Wheel Drive)Periodic fluid checks and replacement of the transfercase fluid are not required. Any repairs that requireadding or replacing fluid should be performed by aqualified technician following procedures in Lexusservice and repair publications.
