03 Your driving environmentLighting 0390* Option/accessory, for more information, see Introduction.IMPORTANTExamples of when manual switchingbetween main and dipped beam may berequired:•In heavy rain or dense fog•In snow flurries or slush•In moonlight•When driving in poorly lit built-up areas•When the traffic ahead has weak light-ing•If there are pedestrians on or beside theroad•If there are highly reflective objects suchas signs in the vicinity of the road•When the lighting from oncoming trafficis obscured by e.g. a crash barrier•When there is traffic on connectingroads•On the brow of a hill or in a hollow•In sharp bends.For more information on the limitations of thecamera sensor, see page 179.Tunnel detection*In cars with rain sensor* the rain sensor detectsthe changed light conditions when the car ise.g. driven into a tunnel, and dipped beam isactivated within a second in markets withoutautomatic dipped beam. Dipped beam is deac-tivated approx. 20 seconds after the car hasbeen driven out of the tunnel. Note! - The head-lamp control must be in position for tun-nel detection to work.Active Xenon headlamps - ABL*Headlamp pattern with function deactivated (left)and activated (right) respectively.If the car is equipped with active Xenon head-lamps Active Bending Lights - ABL the lightfrom the headlamps follows the steering wheelmovement in order to provide maximum light-ing in bends and junctions and so provideincreased safety.The function is activated automatically whenthe car is started. In the event of a fault in thefunction the symbol illuminates in thecombined instrument panel at the same timeas the information display shows an explana-tory text and a further illuminated symbol.Symbol Display Specifica-tionHeadlampfailureServicerequiredThe systemis disen-gaged.
