The California Air Resources Board and BMWof North America (BMW NA) are pleased toexplain the emission control system warrantyon your 2005 vehicle. In California, new motorvehicles must be designed, built and equippedto meet the State's stringent anti-smogstandards. BMW NA must warrant theemission control system on your vehicle for theperiods of time listed below provided there hasbeen no abuse, neglect or improper mainte-nance of your vehicle.Your emission control system may includeparts such as the fuel injection system, theignition system, catalytic converter, and enginecomputer. Also included may be hoses, belts,connectors and other emission-relatedassemblies.Where a warrantable condition exists, BMWNA will repair your vehicle at no cost to youincluding diagnosis, parts and labor.Manufacturer's Warranty Coverage:- For 3 years or 50,000 miles whicheveroccurs first:1. If your vehicle fails a Smog Check inspec-tion, all necessary repairs and adjustmentswill be made by BMW NA to ensure thatyour vehicle passes the inspection. This isyour emission control system PERFOR-MANCE WARRANTY.2. If any emission-related part on your vehicleis defective, the part will be repaired orreplaced by BMW NA. This is your short-term emission control system DEFECTSWARRANTY.- For 7 years or 70,000 miles whicheveroccurs first:If an emission-related part, specially noted onpage 40 as having coverage for 7 years or70,000 miles is defective, the part will berepaired or replaced by BMW NA. This is yourlong-term emission control system DEFECTSWARRANTY.Owner's Warranty Responsibilities:- As the vehicle owner, you are responsiblefor the performance of the requiredmaintenance listed in your Owner'sManual. BMW NA recommends that youretain all receipts covering maintenance onyour vehicle, but BMW NA cannot denywarranty solely for the lack of receipts or foryour failure to ensure the performance of allscheduled maintenance.- You are responsible for presenting yourvehicle to an authorized BMW center assoon as a problem exists.
