3-8Air ConditioningOn hot days, open the windows long enough to let hotinside air escape. This reduces the time it takes for yourvehicle to cool down. Then keep your windows closedfor the air conditioner to work its best.If your vehicle has the manual system, for quickcool-down on very hot days, use the airflow from thepanel outlets, press recirculation and air conditioningwith the temperature control in the blue area. If this maxair conditioning setting is used for long periods of time,the air in your vehicle may become too cold and dry. For normal cooling on hot days, use air conditioningwithout recirculation with the temperature control in theblue area.If your vehicle has the automatic system, press theAUTO button and the system will cool and dehumidifythe air inside the vehicle. Also while in this mode, thesystem will maximize its performance by usingrecirculation as necessary.On cool, but sunny days, with the manual system orthrough manual operation of the automatic system, use bi-level to deliver warm air to the floor and coolerair to the instrument panel outlets. To warm or cool the air delivered, turn the temperature control to thedesired setting.HeatingIf you have the manual system, on cold days use floorwith the temperature lever in the red area. If you havethe automatic system, press AUTO and adjust thetemperature by turning the temperature knob clockwiseor counterclockwise. You may also adjust the automaticsystem manually by pressing the MODE button andselecting floor. Again, adjust the temperature by turningthe temperature knob clockwise or counterclockwise.With either system, outside air will be heated and sentthrough the floor outlets. The heater works best if youkeep the windows closed while using it.Defogging and DefrostingOn cool, humid days, use defog to keep the windshieldand side windows clear. Use the FRONT defrost buttonto remove fog or ice from the windshield quickly inextremely humid or cold conditions.If your vehicle has the manual system, select defog andadjust the fan speed to your comfort level. Turn the airconditioning on to help dehumidify the air. Use frontdefrost with the temperature toward the red area and thefan control toward high.
