Running the Vehicle While ParkedIt is better not to park with the engine running. But if youever have to, here are some things to know.{ CAUTION:Idling a vehicle in an enclosed area with poorventilation is dangerous. Engine exhaust mayenter the vehicle. Engine exhaust contains CarbonMonoxide (CO) which cannot be seen or smelled.It can cause unconsciousness and even death.Never run the engine in an enclosed area that hasno fresh air ventilation. For more information, seeEngine Exhaust on page 2-50 .{ CAUTION:It can be dangerous to get out of the vehicle if theautomatic transmission shift lever is not fully inP (Park) with the parking brake firmly set.CAUTION: (Continued)CAUTION: (Continued)The vehicle can roll. Do not leave the vehiclewhen the engine is running unless you have to.If you have left the engine running, the vehiclecan move suddenly. You or others could beinjured. To be sure the vehicle will not move, evenwhen you are on fairly level ground, always setthe parking brake and move the shift lever toP (Park).{ CAUTION:Four-wheel drive vehicles with the transfer case inN (Neutral) will allow the vehicle to roll, even if theautomatic transmission shift lever is in P (Park). So,be sure the transfer case is in a drive gear not inN (Neutral). Always set the parking brake.Follow the proper steps to be sure the vehicle will notmove.
