{ CAUTION:Rust or dirt on a wheel, or on the parts to which it isfastened, can make wheel nuts become loose aftertime. The wheel could come off and cause anaccident. When changing a wheel, remove any rustor dirt from places where the wheel attaches to thevehicle. In an emergency, use a cloth or a papertowel to do this; but be sure to use a scraper or wirebrush later, if needed, to get all the rust or dirt off.SeeChanging a Flat Tire on page 5-86 .8. Put the wheel nuts back on with the rounded endof the nuts toward the wheel after mounting thespare tire.{ CAUTION:Never use oil or grease on bolts or nuts becausethe nuts might come loose. The vehicles wheelcould fall off, causing a crash.9. Tighten each wheel nut by hand. Then use thewheel wrench to tighten the nuts until the wheelis held against the hub.5-97
