84The B setting / Turning off the exposure meterWith the B/OFFsetting on the shutter speed setting dial, exposures of any duration are possible. The shutter remains open for as long as the shutter release button is held down. The exposure meter is turned off.If the camera is not used or is stored in a bag fora long time, it should always be turned off by turning the shutter speed setting dial to theB/OFF position. This prevents any power consumption, including the low consumption thatcontinues to occur in standby mode after the exposure meter is turned off automatically andthe display is extinguished.Exposure meter metering rangeAt room temperature, normal humidity and aper-ture 1.0, the metering range stretches from 0.03to 125000cd/m2. At ISO 100/21°, this corres-ponds to EV-2 to 20 or f/1.0 and 4s to f/32 and1/1000s (see also diagram on page 87).Working below the metering rangeIf you are below the exposure meter’s meteringrange at very low light densities, the left-hand triangular LED flashes as a warning. As the exposure is metered with the workingaperture, this situation can come about by stopping down the lens.Even if you are below the metering range, the ex-posure meter remains on for around 14s afteryou let go the shutter release button. If thelighting conditions improve in this time (e.g.through a change in the subject detail or openingof the aperture), the LED display changes fromflashing into being continuously lit, indicatingthat the meter is ready.
