- 16 -Image QualityThe image quality setting determines how many photographs canbe stored on a single memory card. The following settings areavailable:At settings of BASIC, NORMAL, and FINE, the camera uses JPEGcompression to reduce the amount of memory required to storephotographs. JPEG compression results in a slight loss in imagequality, which grows more noticeable at higher compression ratios. The difference in quality is illustrated below:While a setting of NORMAL represents the best trade-off be-tween memory and image quality in most cases, a setting of BASICcan be used to save memory. A setting of FINE is suitable forphotographs that will be enlarged or printed at high resolution. To choose an image quality setting, press the button. Thequality setting will change each time the button is pressed (notethat an image quality of HI is only available when the mode dial isset to M-REC). Image quality is displayed in the control panel andLCD monitor.BASIC(high compression)NORMAL(medium compression)FINE(low compression)Using the Buttons (A-REC, M-REC): Image QualityApprox.
