10. Turn the wheel wrench counterclockwise to lowerthe vehicle. Lower the jack completely.11. Tighten the nuts firmly in a crisscross sequence asshown by turning the wheel wrench clockwise.{ CAUTION:Wheel nuts that are improperly or incorrectlytightened can cause the wheels to become loose orcome off. The wheel nuts should be tightened witha torque wrench to the proper torque specificationCAUTION: (Continued)CAUTION: (Continued)after replacing. Follow the torque specificationsupplied by the aftermarket manufacturer whenusing accessory locking wheel nuts. SeeCapacities and Specifications on page 5-122 fororiginal equipment wheel nut torque specifications.Notice:Improperly tightened wheel nuts canlead to brake pulsation and rotor damage. To avoidexpensive brake repairs, evenly tighten the wheelnuts in the proper sequence and to the proper torquespecification. SeeCapacities and Specifications onpage 5-122for the wheel nut torque specification.When you reinstall the regular wheel and tire, you mustalso reinstall either the center cap or the bolt-on hubcap, depending on which your vehicle has. For center caps, line up the tab on the center capwith the slot in the wheel. The cap only goes inone way. Place the cap on the wheel and press untilit snaps into place. For bolt-on hub caps, line up the plastic nut capswith the wheel nuts and tighten clockwise byhand to get them started. Then tighten with thewheel wrench until snug.5-98
