Dell Diagnostics: Dell OptiPlex GX1 Small-Form-Factor System User's Guidefile:///C|/infodev/2013/eDoc/OpGX1/UG/diag.htm [2/21/2013 11:47:14 AM]Confirming the System Configuration InformationWhen you boot your system from the Dell ResourceCD , the diagnostics checks your system configurationinformation and displays it in the System Configuration area on the main screen. The following sources supply this configuration information for the diagnostics:The system configuration information settings (stored in nonvolatile random-access memory [NVRAM])that you selected while using the System Setup programIdentification tests of the microprocessor, the video controller, the keyboard controller, and other keycomponentsBasic input/output system (BIOS) configuration information temporarily saved in RAMDo not be concerned if the System Configuration area does not list the names of all the components ordevices you know are part of your computer system. For example, you may not see a printer listed, althoughyou know one is attached to your computer. Instead, the printer is listed as a parallel port. The computerrecognizes the parallel port as LPT1, which is an address that tells the computer where to send outgoinginformation and where to look for incoming information. Because your printer is a parallel communicationsdevice, the computer recognizes the printer by its LPT1 address and identifies it as a parallel port. How to Use the MenuOne of the menu categories is already highlighted. You can move the highlight from one category to anotherby pressing the left- or right-arrow key. As you move from one menu category to another, a brief explanationof the currently highlighted category appears on the bottom line of the screen.
