3. Turn the engine OFF.4. Wait approximately 30 seconds.5. Restart the engine.6. Shift into the desired gear range. If the problem is nolonger detected, the transmission will return to normaloperation.NOTE:Even if the transmission can be reset, we recom-mend that you visit your authorized dealer at yourearliest possible convenience. Your authorized dealer hasdiagnostic equipment to determine if the problem couldrecur.If the transmission cannot be reset, authorized dealerservice is required.Five-Speed Automatic Transmission IfEquippedThe shift lever position display (located in the instrumentcluster) indicates the transmission gear range. You mustpress the brake pedal to move the shift lever out of PARK(refer to Brake/Transmission Shift Interlock System inthis section). To drive, move the shift lever from PARK orNEUTRAL to the DRIVE position.The electronically-controlled transmission provides aprecise shift schedule. The transmission electronics areself-calibrating; therefore, the first few shifts on a newvehicle may be somewhat abrupt. This is a normalcondition, and precision shifts will develop within a fewhundred miles (kilometers).Only shift from DRIVE to PARK or REVERSE when theaccelerator pedal is released and the vehicle is stopped.Be sure to keep your foot on the brake pedal whenshifting between these gears.380 STARTING AND OPERATING
