Automatic TransmissionSelection Of LubricantIt is important to use the proper transmission fluid toensure optimum transmission performance and life. Useonly the manufacturers recommended transmissionfluid. Refer to Fluids, Lubricants, and Genuine Parts inMaintaining Your Vehicle for fluid specifications. It isimportant to maintain the transmission fluid at thecorrect level using the recommended fluid. No chemicalflushes should be used in any transmission; only theapproved lubricant should be used.CAUTION!Using a transmission fluid other than the manufac-turer's recommended fluid may cause deteriorationin transmission shift quality and/or torque converter(Continued)CAUTION!(Continued)shudder. Refer to "Fluids, Lubricants, and GenuineParts" in "Maintaining Your Vehicle" for fluid speci-fications.Special AdditivesThe manufacturer strongly recommends against usingany special additives in the transmission.Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) is an engineeredproduct and its performance may be impaired by supple-mental additives. Therefore, do not add any fluid addi-tives to the transmission. The only exception to thispolicy is the use of special dyes for diagnosing fluidleaks.
