Giving and receiving assistanceHazard warning systemThe button for the hazard warning system is lo‐cated on the center console.Emergency Request*Requirements▷BMW Assist is activated. Activate BMW As‐sist, refer to page 181 .▷Radio ready state is activated.▷The BMW Assist system is logged on to awireless network.▷The Assist system is operable.▷Equipment version with full preparationpackage mobile phone. This equipmentmakes it possible to send an EmergencyRequest even if no mobile phone is pairedwith the vehicle.Once your service contract for BMW Assist ex‐pires, the BMW Assist system can be deacti‐vated by a BMW center without you having tovisit a workshop. Once the BMW Assist systemhas been deactivated, Emergency Requests arenot possible. The BMW Assist system can bereactivated by a BMW center after a new con‐tract has been signed.Initiating an Emergency Request1.Briefly press the cover flap to open.2. Press the SOS button until the LED in thebutton lights up.As soon as the voice connection to the BMWAssist Response Center has been established,the LED flashes.Once the BMW Assist Response Center has re‐ceived your Emergency Request, the BMW As‐sist Response Center contacts you and takesfurther steps to help you. Even if you are unableto respond, the BMW Assist Response Centerwill be able to initiate further steps to assist youunder certain conditions.If the circumstances allow this, remain in the ve‐hicle until the connection has been established.You will then be able to provide a detailed de‐scription of the situation.In the event of a BMW Assist Emergency Re‐quest, data that are used to determine the nec‐essary rescue measures, such as the currentposition of your vehicle if it can be established,are transmitted to the BMW Assist ResponseCenter.If the LED is flashing but the BMW Assist Re‐sponse Center cannot be heard on the hands-free system, the hands-free system may be mal‐functioning. However, the BMW AssistResponse Center may still be able to hear you.Under certain conditions, an Emergency Re‐quest is automatically initiated immediately aftera severe accident.
