Manual transmissionHave the BMW transported with a tow truck witha so-called lift bar or on a flat bed.Sport automatic transmissionHave the BMW transported on a flat bed.Tow-startingWith the Sport automatic transmission, the en‐gine cannot be started by tow-starting.If possible, do not tow-start the vehicle but startthe engine by jump-starting, refer to page 177 ,it. If the vehicle is equipped with a catalytic con‐verter, only tow-start while the engine is cold.1. Switch on the hazard warning system andcomply with local regulations.2.Switch on the ignition, refer to page 45.3. Shift into 3rd gear.4. Have the vehicle tow-started with the clutchpressed and slowly release the clutch. Afterthe engine starts, immediately depress theclutch completely again.5.
