- 47 -Advanced Settings (M-REC): Extra FunctionsExtra FunctionsThe COOLPIX 900's extra functions menu offers both digitaleffects and pre-programmed settings for the optional fish-eyeand wide-angle lens adapters. The digital effects available aredigital zoom, autoexposure lock, and VGA and/or grayscalerecording. A menu of options can be viewed by highlightingEXTRA FUNC in the shooting menu and pressing the shut-ter button. Options currently selected are marked by an "X" inthe box to the left of the item.GXVAEEC IDBGITALOUTETELFYETESH T IWDE DCABK EXTRAFUNCSETSHUTTERLAC&WH I TEKI SHEAEALOKPERThe items available in the extra functions menu are describedbelow.VGA SHOTWhen this option is selected and the selector dial is set toM-REC, photographs will be recorded at a resolution of 640. 480 pixels, one-quarter the camera's usual resolution of1,280 . 960 pixels. This results in images which require onlyone quarter the usual amount of memory to store, althoughwith a corresponding loss of detail. In VGA mode, theimage-quality indicator in the control panel will blink and thecolor LCD monitor will show a VGA mark.While the camera is in VGA mode, the drive setting CON-TINUOUS can not be selected (see "Continuous (DigitalMotor Drive)," above). If digital zoom is chosen, either byselecting DIGITAL TELE from the extra functions menuor by pressing the zoom-in switch until 2 . digital zoom isactivated, the camera will record pictures in an area in thecenter of the frame half the usual height and breadth of thearea usually recorded and will store the resulting image as aphotograph 640 . 480 pixels in size.BLACK&WHITEThis option is used to create monochrome (grayscale)photographs. While this option is selected, any photographstaken in M-REC mode will be stored as grayscale images andthe color LCD monitor will show the view through thecamera's lens in black-and-white.
