- 73 -Troubleshooting: General ProblemsIndication: The AF lamp is flickering* The camera is unable to focus. Release the shutter button andfocus on a new subject at the same distance. Half-press theshutter button and check that the AF lamp glows steadily,then, with the shutter button held halfway down, frame theoriginal subject in the monitor or viewfinder. Press the shutterbutton the rest of the way down to record the photograph.Indication: Exposure count shows zero* There is not enough memory to record photographs atcurrent settings. There may still be enough memory torecord photographs at a lower image-quality or in VGAmode. You will not however be able make a photograph atcurrent settings until you have deleted one or more imagesfrom memory as described in " Playback."Indication: The monitor shows "NO CARD PRESENT,""CARD IS NOT FORMATTED," "IMAGE CANNOT BESAVED," or "THIS CARD CANNOT BE USED."* Either no card is present in the camera or the card is notcurrently capable of recording photographs. Follow thesteps given in "Error Messages," below.Indication: There are 999 photographs in memory* The camera cannot store more than 999 images regardlessof their size or the size of the flash memory card. Replacethe card or delete some photographs.Indication: The most recently recorded photograph has afilename of "9999.JPG" when viewed in playback mode* The camera cannot record images when the flash-memorycard contains a file ending in "9999.JPG". The photographwith a filename of "9999.JPG" must be deleted before morephotographs can be recorded.The flash doesn't work or takes more than thirtyseconds to chargeIndication: The flash icon in the control panel shows that theflash is set to "Flash Cancel" ().* Choose another flash setting. See " Using the Flash".Indication: Battery level is low* If the battery indicator in the control panel is flashing orshows a low battery level, before using the flash you willneed to replace the batteries as described in " Putting Batter-ies in Your Camera."Indication: The focus icon in the control panel shows asetting of "Infinity" ()* The flash will not work at a setting of "Infinity." Chooseanother focus setting before using the flash (see " FocusSettings").Indication: The control panel shows a icon or the colorLCD monitor shows "AE-L" (M-REC)* The flash will not work when the camera is set to "Continu-ous," "VGA Sequence," or "AE Lock". Set the selector dialto A-REC or choose different settings before using the flash(see "Advanced Settings").Images are over- or underexposed* When using the flash, be sure that your subject is at anappropriate distance (see "Using the Flash").* In M-REC mode, exposure can be adjusted by selecting adifferent metering method (see " Metering Method"), by usingexposure adjustment (see "Exposure Adjustment"), or by adjust-ing brightness or contrast as described in " Image Adjustment."
