- 22 -First Steps: Choosing a Language for the MenusChoosing a Language for the MenusFor the display of messages and menu items in its LCD monitor,the COOLPIX 900 offers a choice of English, French, German,and Japanese. When you first turn your camera on, you mayfind that the menus are in a language other than English. Toselect a new language for the display, turn the selector dial toM-REC.Wait one or two seconds for the camera to start up. The colorLCD monitor should show the camera's current settings super-imposed on the view through the lens.Note: If there is no card currently in thecamera, in place of the camera settings themonitor will show a message indicating thatno card is present. If the monitor is blank,press the MONITOR button until the viewthrough the camera's lens is visible. Shouldthe monitor remain blank, check whether thecontrol panel on top of the camera is on. Ifnot, rotate the selector dial to OFF and checkthat the batteries are properly inserted orthat the AC adapter is connected andplugged in.Press the MENU key to bring up the shooting menu. If themenu is not in English, press the zoom-out switch (W/ t) untilthe last item in the first page of options is selected (in theillustrations below, "XXXﾁc" has been substituted for theletters actually appearing in the display).XX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXWith the last item selected, press the shutter button.
