- 40 -Advanced Settings (M-REC): The Shooting MenuCONTINUOUS (Digital Motor-Drive)A choice of three drive settings is offered: single-shot,continuous, and VGA sequence. In single-shot mode, onephotograph is taken each time the shutter button is fullypressed. In continuous and VGA-sequence modes, thecamera will continue to record photographs as long as theshutter button is held down. See " Continuous (DigitalMotor-Drive)" for details.WHITE BAL (White Balance)White balance can be adjusted for different lighting condi-tions by choosing from among settings for exterior (brightsunlight, overcast) or interior (incandescent, fluorescent,flash) lighting. See "White Balance," below.IMG ADJUST (Image Adjustment)Brightness and contrast can be adjusted digitally to com-pensate for difficult lighting conditions. See " Image Adjust-ment," below.LANGUAGEThe language used in the camera's menus and messagescan be chosen from among English, French, German, andJapanese. See "First Steps: Choosing a Language for theMenus," above.EXTRA FUNC (Extra Functions)This item offers a range of digital effects, including digitalzoom, conversion to grayscale (black and white) or VGA,and autoexposure lock. It also provides special settingsfor the optional fish-eye and wide-angle lens adapters. See"Extra Functions," below.LCD BRIGHT (LCD Brightness)This item allows the user to adjust the brightness of thecolor LCD monitor. This setting only affects the monitor,not photographs taken with the camera. See " LCD Bright-ness," below.AUTO OFFBy default, the color monitor turns off automatically if nooperation is performed for thirty seconds. AUTO OFFallows the user to choose how long the monitor willremain on in A-REC or M-REC modes (a separate AUTOOFF function is available for playback mode). See " AutoOff," below.CARDFORMATChoose CARDFORMAT to format compact flash-memory cards for use in the COOLPIX 900 as describedin "Formatting Memory Cards," below.LCD ON/OFFThis setting controls whether the color LCD monitorcomes on automatically or remains off to save batterypower when the camera is turned on.
