- 26 -First Steps: Basic Photography (A-REC)Step 3-Check the number of exposures remainingThe control panel and color LCD monitor show the number ofexposures remaining at the current image quality setting.When this number reaches zero, an "out of memory" messagewill be displayed in the color LCD monitor (see " Troubleshoot-ing," below). Before more photographs can be taken at thecurrent image quality setting, you will need to insert a newmemory card or delete items already in memory (see " Connec-tions" and "Deleting Photographs from Memory ," below). It maybe possible to record more photographs at a different imagequality setting.Note: When more than 999 exposures remain, the exposurecount will show 999.Image quality (normal)Flash (auto)Step 4-Check the camera's settingsIn automatic mode, the user can adjust image-quality, flash, andfocus settings. The default settings, which produce the bestresults in most circumstances, are autofocus, automatic flash,and an image quality of "normal."Under these settings, the camera will choose the shutter speedand aperture best suited to record subjects at distances of 50cm (20") or more and the flash will be fired whenever lighting isinadequate. Different settings can be chosen depending onyour needs using the buttons next to the control panel. Adetailed description of the settings available in automatic modemay be found in the following chapter, " Basic Photography:Reference."Number of exposures remaining
