- 28 -First Steps: Basic Photography (A-REC)Step 6-Compose a photographFrame your subject in the viewfinder or the color LCD monitor.Press the zoom-in switch (T/s) to magnify the subject so thatonly a portion of it fills the frame, or use the zoom-out switch(W/t) to expand the field-of-view so that more of the subjectis visible. While the zoom switch is pressed, an indicator show-ing the amount of zoom is displayed in the color LCD monitor.Note: Wait a moment for the camera to focus after zooming inor out.At maximum zoom, the subject can be further magnified byholding the zoom-in switch down for two seconds. If the colorLCD monitor is on or the camera is connected to a televisionset, the camera will enter digital-zoom mode, magnifying thesubject digitally by two times (note that unlike optical zoom,digital zoom does not increase the amount of detail visible in thephotograph; details visible at maximum zoom are simply en-larged, producing a slightly "grainy" image).
