- 49 -Advanced Settings (M-REC): Extra FunctionsAE LOCK (Autoexposure Lock)Autoexposure lock is used to make a series of photographswith consistent exposure and white balance, as for examplewhen making a sequence of photographs that will later usedin creating a 360-degree panorama. If autoexposure lock isused, the autoexposure (shutter speed and aperture) andwhite-balance settings for the first photograph in the serieswill be used for all subsequent photographs, allowing thephotographs to be joined seamlessly into a single image. To take a series of photographs using autoexposure lock, select AE LOCK in the extra functions menu as describedbelow and turn the selector dial to M-REC. Compose thefirst photograph in the series and press the shutter button allthe way down to record the image. Autoexposure andwhite balance settings for M-REC mode will be locked at thevalues the camera chose for this photograph. Take theremaining photographs in the series (you may wish to use atripod to ensure that the photographs are taken from aconsistent height and angle), then deselect AE LOCK in theextra functions menu to restore normal autoexposure andwhite balance.Note: White-balance settings will only be locked if auto whitebalance is selected (see "White Balance," above). At othersettings only autoexposure will be locked; the current white-balance setting will remain in effect but cannot be changed. While autoexposure lock is in effect and the camera is in M-REC mode, AE-L (autoexposure lock) and WB-L (white-balance lock) indicators will be shown in the color monitor.Note: When autoexposure lock is in effect, the flash willautomatically by set to "Flash Cancel" and will not fire evenwhen lighting is inadequate.
