- 52 -Advanced Settings (M-REC): Formatting Memory CardsFormatting Memory CardsCompact flash memory cards must be formatted before theycan be used in the camera (unformatted cards can be formattedwhen inserted, as is described in " Troubleshooting," below). Youcan also format cards to remove all data from the card. For-matting memory cards permanently deletes all photographs thatmay be stored on the card; be sure to copy any photographsand other data you wish to keep to a computer (see " Connec-tions," below). To format a memory card from the shootingmenu, highlight CARDFORMAT and press the shutter but-ton. The following window will appear.AWRN EBI DELETGED!IN ! FOR AMBK FORMATSETSHUTTERMAGS WILLALLETNOPress the zoom-in switch (T/s) to highlight FORMAT, thenpress the shutter button. The following message will be dis-played while the memory card is being formatted.To exit the format window without formatting the memorycard, highlight NO or BK and press the shutter button,which will return you to the shooting menu, or press the MENUbutton to restore the view through the lens.4Caution: Do not remove memorycards from the camera while format-ting is in progress. This could renderthe card inoperable.
