- 70 -Connections: Connecting the Camera to a ComputerOnce you have connected your camera to the computer's serialport, turn the camera's selector dial to M-REC, A-REC, orPLAY. A data-transfer icon will appear in the control paneltogether with a battery indicator and a card icon. If no card iscurrently inserted in the camera, the card icon will flash.All other indicators and the color LCD monitor will be off, andthe camera will not respond when the zoom switch and controlpanel or monitor buttons are pushed. The only control opera-tive when the serial cable is connected is the selector dial, whichcan only be used to turn the camera on (by turning the dial toM-REC, A-REC, or PLAY) or off. To restore normal operation,remove the serial cable.4 Caution: Do not disconnect the serial cable while the datatransfer icon is flashing.Once the camera has been connected to your computer, youcan use Nikon View 900 to browse the contents of the camera'smemory or to copy items from the camera to disk.Note: When unplugging the cable from the camera, pull thecable from the camera while pushing the cable's release button(located on the underside of the connector). Unplug the cable bythe connector, not by pulling directly on the cable itself.4 Caution: Do not use the camera with a computer whenbattery power is low or critical. If the battery indicator in thecontrol panel shows low or critical when the camera is connectedto a computer, wait for the data transfer icon to stop flashing, thendisconnect the camera and replace the batteries or connect the ACadapter (sold separately).
